Improvised Musical Comedy – Weekend with Baby Wants Candy

Prerequisite: 
For folks with at least 1-2 years of improv experience. Musically, you need to have either taken “Help Me Improvise a Song” this year or last year, or have experience in musical theater, singing, or songwriting.

Adrien Pellerin will spend the entire weekend teaching you everything he knows about improvised musicals. Baby Wants Candy is renowned for its fun, joyful and hilarious playing style, which they foster in all their workshops. 

Based on BWC’s signature form – a one hour, completely improvised musical with a full band – participants will learn how to:

• Rehearse basic song structure
• Explore a variety of song types – both in structure and in genre
• Create musical narratives while still maintaining the funny
• Use the game of the scene, characters, emotions & wants to create strong comedic songs
• Use emotion to help make singing much easier
• Rhyme confidently and consistently
• Elevate your chorus’ to find the funny through dedicated word play training
• Learn to play and let loose
• Demolish the feeling of “Oh god, what do I sing about?” when the music starts, and go into your songs feeling excited and relaxed!
   

This weekend is your chance to deepen or reactivate your musical improv skills, build confidence, and have a blast with like-minded improvisers, all guided by one of the best in the world!

With 4000+ shows and 2 shows a day during the 4 weeks of each Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and thousands of students over the years, Baby Wants Candy have honed their musical and non-musical improv skills and courses, and for sure will have great tools to share!

Cancelation policy
We know life happens, but no-shows deprive other folks of a chance to learn and makes it hard for us to pay our amazing trainers. We can offer a 50% refund if you cancel by Tuesday 26 August at 10pm. After that, you will be charged full price (or you may find a replacement who can take your place).

Adrien Pellerin is an NYC-based actor, improviser, producer, pianist and musical director. He has served as musical director for Baby Wants Candy and Shamilton all over the world for many years, including for BWC’s scripted hit show Thrones! as well as our runs at Adelaide Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe, the Kennedy Center and in New York City at UCB, BCC and Caveat. His work has appeared on Comedy Central, Adult Swim and Funny or Die. He performs sketch comedy and musical improv regularly in New York City and at festivals around the world. Adrien returns for his third trip in Geneva, and will be at the Edinburgh Fringe prior to arriving.

Baby Wants Candy is one of the most popular and celebrated comedy ensembles in the world. Currently, BWC has open runs in Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago, as well as an international touring company with over 4000 improvised musicals and counting! BWC has performed and led workshops for thousands in the US, Asia, Europe and Australia, our scripted shows have been translated into 11 languages (including French and German!), and have enjoyed 9 fully sold out Edinburgh Fringe runs. Both BWC and their spinoff show Shamilton sold out in previous years and will be returning again this year. Our style combines what we consider are the best parts of UCB and iO, both institutions at which we performed and taught for years.
